A Yearning Supplication to Guru Rinpoche
This year, the year of the Fire Monkey is Guru Rinpoche's birth year. Guru Rinpoche was the master who brought Buddhism to Tibet, and was especially instrumental in spreading the teachings of the Vajrayana (the Adamanatine Vehicle). To remind ourselves of the enlightened qualities of Guru Rinpoche and his great kindness to us, we will be posting a series of supplications to Guru Rinpoche over the next few months.
Some of you may ask what is the meaning of supplication? Phakchok Rinpoche often teaches on the importance of supplication. To quote him, "If we are correctly supplicating, we are asking to come to see and realize the nature of our own minds." To read the full teaching, please click here.
In this first post, we present here the Six Vajra Lines supplication, or more popularly known as Dusum Sangye, a treasure revealed by Chokgyur Lingpa. This supplication is known to almost all Tibetans, young and old, as it is one of the most complete supplication to Guru Rinpoche. This one supplication embodies the outer, inner, secret and inner secret Heart Practice of Guru Rinpoche. This supplication was chanted by Kyabje Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche himself, a great Dzogchen meditation master who passed away around twenty years ago. To hear the voice of such great masters in itself will bring blessings if we open our heart with devotion.
Have a virtue-filled day ahead!
